POSITION SUMMARY:

The Video/Production Designer is primarily responsible for the creation, development and implementation of video/production design components and motion graphics for a variety of broadcast and non-broadcast projects.  The Video/Production Designer is also responsible for the operation of video design/production equipment for live, live-on-tape, and post-produced broadcast and non-broadcast productions.  Additional responsibilities may include graphic design work for print and web. 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Design and produce video/production graphics and animations as assigned.  Participate in the development of timelines and budgets as needed.  Consult with clients, other staff and vendors as needed to ensure that project design goals are met.

2.    Operate Macintosh and Chyron Duet systems for pre-production, post-production, broadcast and non-broadcast projects as assigned.  Work schedule sometimes includes evening, weekend and occasional overnight assignments. 

3.    Collaborate effectively with clients, producers and others to understand/refine project message and goals; then creatively and effectively develop video/production design solutions to achieve and enhance those goals.

4.    Work quickly, creatively, professionally and calmly in high energy, deadline-based environment including on live-broadcast productions.

5.    Respect diversity in the workplace.  Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product, interactions and decision-making. 

6.    Work collaboratively across departments to insure that the services of the video

design/production unit are an accessible resource.

7.    Perform other duties, including print and web-based design work, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Operate Macintosh and Chyron Duet systems for pre-production, post-
  • production, broadcast and non-broadcast projects
  • Computer skills including familiarity and comfort with animation software for both 2D and 3D applications
  • Clear, articulate and open communication with individuals and groups, internal and external to WPT
  • Creativity to envision and articulate project requirements
  • Ability to work effectively and productively on a team
  • High level of memory function to complete complex, multiple tasks
  • Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time
  • Fine motor coordination to effectively operate computer equipment
  • Visual acuity for discerning color and other properties of photographic and non- photographic imagery

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Bachelor’s degree.

2.       Two years professional experience in video design

3.       Demonstrated knowledge of Chyron, or equivalent production equipment

4.       High level of expertise with the current version of Adobe Creative Suite Production Software, specifically Photoshop, AfterEffects and Illustrator

5.       Experience and demonstrated success managing projects as well as developing and meeting timelines.

6.       Ability to prioritize and work independently under pressure to meet deadlines.

7.       Experience implementing graphic standards across media

8.       Advanced communication skills: written, oral and interpersonal to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.  Commitment to respectful, open workplace communication. 

9.       Ability to adjust to a fluid work environment and juggle multiple priorities.

10.    Success in encouraging and supporting an inclusive and diverse working climate.

 

Desirable but not required qualifications:

1.       Experience doing print and web design

2.       Experience with video and/or audio editing

3.       Competency in at least one 3D computer graphics program such as Cinema 4D, Lightwave or Maya.

4.       Experience in public broadcasting
