The Executive Assistant to the President and CEO is responsible for the smooth running of all aspects of the President’s office, bringing a spirit of engagement, collaboration, excellence and organization to a fast-paced and high-profile setting.  Be part of the inner-workings of one of the largest public media organizations in the country. Need For This Position: New York Public Radio is highly regarded amongst all of its constituents for its public service, independent journalism, quality music offerings and living our mission “to make the mind more curious, the heart more open and the spirit more joyful.” This position supports the head of our organization and is, therefore, at the center of the activity and energy that make it successful.  This is where you make a difference. It’s the executive assistant’s job to keep things organized, on track, on time and all the pieces connected and cohesive through excellent management of multiple concurrent tasks, competing priorities and, at times, ambiguity.

You are well-read, have diverse interests and a demonstrated record of accomplishment. You take initiative, self-motivate and self-manage, always asking how we can make things better—smoother, more organized and more timely.

 

The hats you will wear:  

#1) You’re a proven tactician who also sees the big picture; capable of anticipating needs and proactively managing up; the glue that holds it all together while remaining nimble and flexible to ever-changing conditions; and able to serve as a trusted, solutions-oriented support partner who delivers results with impeccable discretion and reliability.  

#2) You’re a choreographer and a multitasker, overseeing the motion of activity in and out of the President’s office, conducting research, preparing correspondence and managing projects.  

#3) You’re a gifted diplomat, skilled at resolving competing priorities, time and resource demands, capable of frequent interaction with the Board of Trustees, government officials, celebrities, heads of foundations and companies, and the public and handling sensitive communications with style, tact and grace.

#4) You’re a seasoned expert in providing administrative support and project management, bringing with you demonstrated best practices and advanced expertise in related technology , software applications and organization.  

Qualifications:

 

5 years in an administrative support or project management role working with busy, high powered executive and exposure to working with Boards.

 

Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.

 

Excellent computer skills; advanced level in all Microsoft Office Suite; familiar with personal productivity tools and mobile device technology.

 

Passion:  Demonstrate an affinity for NYPR’s mission and content.

 

Personality:  charismatic, diplomatic, communicative, problem-solver, collaborative, critical thinker, strong (challenges don’t overwhelm you).

  • Ability to work extended hours as needed
  • The intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively with the senior leadership team, colleagues, staff and external partners and provide motivation at all levels of an organization
  • Excellent communication skills—both oral and written—with an impressive reputation for building and maintaining relationships with people at all levels of an organization, across a diverse range of cultural, generational, ethnic, racial, educational and social backgrounds
  • Use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods  including but not limited to; email, internet based applications for internal and external communications
  • Affinity for New York Public Radio; WNYC and/or WQXR content and mission a plus
