Job Title:  Digital Media Specialist

Department: Digital Media

Under supervision of the Digital Media Strategist, PBA’s Digital Specialist develops and produces online content and is responsible for maintenance of WABE.org, PBA.org, social media sites, and associated digital channels.

Working closely with production staff in other departments, including television, radio, and education, the Digital Specialist is an ambassador for digital initiatives, a leader in cultural change and channel convergence. The Specialist executes online projects and initiatives, and provides creative guidance and instruction to staff on digital tools, trends, and best practices.

The Digital Specialist is an administrator of the station’s websites and works closely with arts and culture, education, fundraising, news, television, and underwriting staff on story selection, presentation, and placement. The specialist attends department meetings and works with producers to conceptualize and create digital-specific content to enhance stories and promote audience engagement.

The Digital Specialist is a front-end customer service representative of the station, receiving and responding to messages from our audience received via email or through other online channels.

The Specialist will also be called on to produce content and provide support for other digital projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or similar field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in developing stories for digital distribution through the web, social media, mobile, and other digital channels.
  • Experience in developing and producing digital content, including audio, video, and still photography.
  • Strong content judgment, editorial, and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, as well as skills in news writing, editing, interviewing, production, communication and interpersonal skills.
  •  Must be able to handle a variety of activities, work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient Web skills, including: HTML, CSS, the ability to work within online content management systems, deep social media skills.
  • Knowledge of AP Style.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Must possess a creative and entrepreneurial spirit, able to think “outside the box,” present ideas clearly and completely, and able to work within an established organizational framework.
