Reporting to the Director, Compensation, Benefits & Labor Relations, the HRIS and Benefits Specialist is a key member of the HR team and is responsible for the integrity of data in our system, administration of benefits, compliance and recordkeeping.  This position is integral to implementing a new HRIS this year.  

 
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and document existing and new processes that will be referenced to create automated workflows in the new system.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of a new HRIS, and administer, maintain and sustain it post-implementation.
  • Process new hires, departures, leaves and changes in the HRIS timely and accurately.
  • Work closely with Finance and the payroll department to process the bi-weekly payroll and benefits deductions.
  • Conduct new hire and benefits orientation.
  • Administer the health & welfare, retirement and other benefit plans, including adds/deletes/changes of participant eligibility, status, and personal information, and interface with carriers and TPA regarding same.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits questions, policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Manage, maintain, generate and analyze periodic as well as ad-hoc reports on employee data from the HRIS.
  • Administer, develop, update, and modify codes, tables, reports, and other systems applications
  • Review data input and output reporting for accuracy; assists with regular audits for data integrity, accuracy and compliance.
  • Review health and welfare monthly invoices for accuracy and work with carriers and broker to reconcile discrepancies.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment, health fairs, various training sessions, quarterly new hire orientations and other employee events
  • Assist with audits.
  • Create and file compliance documents (e.g. WTPA, OSHA, state and federal law notices)
  • Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with NYPR record retention policy.
  • Assist with general administration and scheduling.
  • Maintain confidentiality, internally and externally, of all employee, department and station information
  • Additional duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree required; strongly prefer concentrated coursework in HR, Accounting or Finance and PHR or CEBS certification
  • At least 3 years experience within Human Resources, with strong HRIS and benefits administration
  • Knowledge of relevant human resources policies, regulations, principles, procedures and legislative provisions governing benefits, hiring, equal employment opportunity and administration required
  • Demonstrated success working with detailed information requiring precision and accuracy, and managing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills required; solutions orientation a must
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills required
  • Demonstrated discretion and ability to work with confidential information required
  • Must excel with numbers, formulas and calculations
  • Ability to self-manage and be motivated by owning your results and delivery of quality work product
  • Advanced proficiency with a Human Resources database and MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) required
  • Affinity for the New York Public Radio mission and programming preferred

  • Ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods  including but not limited to; email, internet based applications for internal and external communications
  • Affinity for New York Public Radio; WNYC and/or WQXR content and mission a plus
