Assistant Producer

VFH Radio, Virginia Foundation for the Humanities

Assistant Producer: BackStory with the American History Guys—a nationally distributed public radio program based at the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities in Charlottesville—seeks an Assistant Producer to support the show’s three Associate Producers in the production of the weekly program. The Assistant Producer’s main responsibilities include topical research, studio scheduling, guest and caller booking, basic scriptwriting and audio editing, and uploading of finished show content. This person also has primary responsibility for maintaining BackStory's website and social media presence and for managing the program’s communications with a wide range of constituencies, including listeners, partner stations, bloggers, and the larger scholarly community. The Assistant Producer also aids in the conceptualization of program episodes and the production of show elements. Successful candidates will have experience creating, managing, and/or editing multimedia content (especially spoken-word audio) in a journalistic setting. Experience working with digital archives in advanced scholarly settings will be considered in lieu of experience in strictly journalistic environments. Excellent writing and organizational abilities are vital, as is an active interest in and comfort with social media platforms and web-publishing tools. Research skills in the humanities are vital. Successful candidates will be creative, curious people who are able to work collaboratively and effectively with others in a deadline-driven environment. This is a 32 hour/week position. At this time, the end date of this position is 9/30/2013; however, the Department expects the date to be extended, subject to funding, at least through June 2014. To apply, visit jobs@uva and search postings for position number 0611472. The University of Virginia is an equal opportunity employer.
