Aspen Public Radio (KAJX-FM)
Aspen Public Radio, the largest public radio station and NPR member station on Colorado’s Western Slope, seeks a dynamic leader and effective fundraiser to serve as its Executive Director. The Executive Director leads a full time staff of 8 and a part time staff of 5. APR is solidly connected to the community, financially stable, and has strong support from its Board of Directors.
Aspen Public Radio serves a large, mountainous geography including Pitkin, Eagle, Garfield, and Rio Blanco Counties. Approximately, 10,000 unique listeners per week listen to APR via the radio or on a digital platform. For the past five years, the station has invested heavily in its local news initiative and now has four full time reporters. APR is part of NPR Digital. The current budget for the station is approximately $1.1M per year.
APR currently has a hybrid format consisting of NPR News and Talk, classical music, 20 hours of volunteer music programming per week, local news and events coverage. APR maintains important programmatic relationships with the Aspen Music Festival and School, the Aspen Institute, and several other nationally recognized organizations.
APR seeks a leader who has a clear understanding of public radio, deep knowledge of programming, is energetic, and is a skilled fundraiser. Candidates must be a strong communicator and willing to become the “face” of the station.
