Illinois Public Media seeks an IT Pro to install, manage and maintain computer workstations, peripherals and software applications used to support IPM broadcasting and online operations. The IT Systems Manager will support, administer and help manage IPM’s core servers and services. The right candidate will contribute significantly to planning and coordinating technology infrastructure projects for Illinois Public Media.
Illinois Public Media (WILL AM-FM-TV-Online) is the not-for-profit, award-winning public media service of the College of Media at the flagship public university of the state of Illinois, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our mission: educate, entertain, inspire and empower audiences by providing the best of public radio and television programs, producing local content for broadcast and the Web while working with community partners to address needs and concerns.
Key duties include:
- Assisting in the strategic planning and implementation of systems, enhancements, upgrades, and new technologies associated with personal computing and network systems;
- Coordinating the automation of application installation and deployment;
- Assisting in planning alignment of IT infrastructure across all departments at Illinois Public Media;
- Providing technical support and training for Illinois Public Media staff and other users;
- Continuously researching emerging technologies;
- Creating and maintaining IT documentation, procedures, and inventories.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum three years of experience in IT administration and user support
- Experience installing and administering multi-user production systems
- Training in and experience with Windows Server Administration, Active Directory, Linux Administration and VMWare
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience applying best practices for IT systems security.
- Working knowledge of Intel-based PC’s and allied hardware, MS Windows and network components, and general-purpose application software. Experience with Mac OSX desired but not required.
- Strong desire and ability to research emerging technologies and evaluate their potential usefulness for Illinois Public Media.
- Ability to effectively document workflows and changes.
- Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people.
This is a full-time, 40-hour per week academic professional position, with some schedule flexibility due to the nature of operations at IPM. The University of Illinois offers a generous benefits package, which includes ten paid holidays and one month of paid vacation annually, health, dental and life insurance, sick leave, a pension system, and tuition benefits. Salary commensurate with experience but not less than $52,000.
