COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

North Texas Public Broadcasting, Inc., the Dallas/Fort Worth NPR and PBS station, is hiring a full-time Community Engagement Coordinator. This coordinator will strengthen KERA's relationship and connection with the community through public media and innovative methods of communication, and will manage and track engagement of station content streams and coverage initiatives using traditional, and new and emerging media techniques.

The ideal candidate is a stellar team player with proven skills as a communicator, writer and organizer. She/he should have a passion for public media with a drive to maximize the impact that public radio, television and digital distribution can make in people's lives in North Texas and beyond. This position will help serve a large, intelligent and engaged audience through community conversations, outreach activities and events, online and multimedia formats – while always remaining firmly rooted in the ethics and standards of public media. This position will report to the Executive Producer/Host and will also provide administrative services to the Content Department.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops community engagement initiatives; supports, promotes, and expands community alliances that enhance and broaden KERA’s role across  North Texas
  • Creates strategies to identify target audiences, recruit subjects for events and news initiatives, and engages community members in dialogue
  • Works cross-departmentally to implement initiatives that build awareness and interaction with the community
  • Plans community forums and events focused on key news coverage areas – education and health, science and technology – plus other coverage initiatives as they develop. This includes planning anything from televised town hall forums to group meetings with community “partner” organizations to informal events at libraries
  • Manages and tracks engagement for all projects, content streams and coverage initiatives through emerging and social media, and traditional methods - while also helping to identify and implement best practices
  • Maintains related administrative databases, calendars and ongoing correspondence for projects and promotion of initiatives
  • Assists with research and writing of grants to support projects
  • Develops information materials and strategies for engagement initiatives.
  • Writes and curates content for social media and  KERA blogs, with special focus on independent content creators and diverse underserved audiences
  • Assists in the creation/editing of e-newsletters
  • Provides administrative support for the Executive Vice President for Content and for the Content management staff
  • Participates in on-air fundraising campaigns and production as needed

Qualifications:

Required

  • Experience building community around content and working with partners
  • Proven writing skills
  • Strong social networking skills and experience with new and emerging media as used for community engagement
  • Deep knowledge of engagement tools, including experience constructing questionnaires and designing research tools.
  • A commitment to community building and experience working with groups from diverse communities
  • Excellent inter-group, communication, organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and oversee diverse projects simultaneously

Desired

  • Public media experience
  • Experience researching and writing grant applications
  • Deep knowledge of North Texas people, cultures, issues, and geography as well as national and international issues, and events.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
