The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by WGBH, the BBC World Service, and Public Radio International (PRI). The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically for an American audience. The World’s companion website, theworld.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and theworld.org use social media and other relevant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance the user experience.

Under the supervision of the Web Content Editor, the Digital Producer is a key member of the editorial team that is re-launching and rapidly growing PRI.org as a destination for people who want to engage with global news and cultures. The producer’s role is to lead, inspire and support the PRI.org staff and The World’s editors, reporters and producers in creating digital-first content. The goal of this content is to demonstrably attract and involve the public in major issues, news stories and cultural events around the globe. Initially, the producer will focus on The World’s Global Nation coverage exploring American identity and changing communities through a focus on the experience of immigrants. The editorial team will track and gauge success against aggressive goals for extending the digital audience and building communities of highly engaged users.

Skills Required:

Strong skill with creating and editing audio, video, photos, slideshows and graphics. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and HTML are required.
Demonstrated experience convincing a large number of online users to engage with content and contribute to storytelling with photos, text, audio or other media
Skilled at rapid multimedia production, editing and tagging, preferably in a daily journalism environment. This includes experience publishing a wide range of digital elements within a content management system such as Drupal
Extensive use and understanding of social media networks and trend spotting, including experience using analytics to track success
Prefer experience with graphic design and data-based graphic creation, including using tools like fusion tables to manipulate data
Prefer experience following and covering issues touching on immigration, diversity and ethnicity
Highly organized; self-directed; able to handle multiple projects with the ability to develop and meet deadlines.
Should love the news; foreign experience is a plus.
Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills

Educational Requirements:

Undergraduate degree with a minimum of 3 years professional experience creating graphic, multimedia and interactive elements for journalism-based websites. Experience with a daily news website is preferred.
