Position Summary

New York Public Radio (NYPR) seeks to substantially grow revenue from our corporate national and network supporters. We are looking for a dynamic, motivating leader who can develop our staff of seasoned National Underwriting Managers and strategically organize the department and territories in pursuit of maximizing revenue opportunities. Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Underwriting and Integrated Media Sponsorships, the Sr. Director of National Underwriting & Integrated Media Sponsorships will be responsible for managing all strategies and activities that support the national and network underwriting business.  The Sr. Director of National Underwriting will also meet regularly and work in tandem with the Director of Digital Underwriting to drive digital revenue growth from our national and network sponsors.

This position requires strong leadership ability, a hands-on approach to coaching and selling, a strategic thinker, and a proven track record of developing new business and securing renewals to achieve revenue goals and growth.

Knowledge of digital and its role in shaping and complementing broadcast is key in order to successfully drive growth on our national digital platforms.  Ability to multi-task projects and clients at various stages of a deal is crucial.  A developed rolodex and solid relationships to open doors with agency planners and new prospects is required and is critical to your success.  You must have experience selling high dollar multiplatform campaigns.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee National Account Managers activities and ensure they have the tools, resources, and abilities to successfully carry out their roles, increase the average sale by closing bigger deals, and exceed revenue goals
  • Oversee and support the creative approval process with National Account Managers and their clients
  • Provide input into the strategic direction of the Underwriting Department, then translate that into action
  • Serve as a coach/mentor – ensure ongoing training and development of direct reports to enhance performance
  • Interact and negotiate with major customers and top management and maintain strong client relationships
  • Provide transparency into the sales funnel for forecasting and revenue reporting
  • Adjusts sales territories and related assignments to maximize the opportunity for growth
  • Stay abreast of market trends and competitive activity in commercial and public radio and online media
  • Establish quarterly and annual sales targets for the staff
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with external agents in order to expand the reach of our sales efforts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years media sales management experience with track record of continuously increasing results
  • Must be results-oriented, self-motivated and professional with impeccable business ethics
  • Excellent negotiation and decision-making skills required
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both entrepreneurially and as a part of a team
  • Must be tech savvy (including a familiarity with sales tools, excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office) ; a team player and a multi-tasker
  • Expert knowledge of qualitative and quantitative audience research and leveraging it to develop solid buying rationale
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to target message to various audiences
  • Dynamic presence, Extremely high comfort level presenting to executives and ad agencies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a flair for creativity
  • Knowledge of National advertising landscape

Must be willing and able to travel (possibly with short notice at times)
