Louisville Public Media, home of public radio stations 89.3 WFPL, 90.5 WUOL, and 91.9 WFPK, seeks a broadcast professional to fill the role of Technical Operations Manager. This position is responsible for the planning, maintenance and operation of the broadcast controls of Louisville Public Media’s three member radio stations.
The Technical Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day technical delivery of the signal & programming to the audience. This position is on-call 24/7 and responds to emergency needs when they arise. This position designs, integrates, builds, and maintains studio plant and systems.
Job Requirements
Oversee the playout and distribution systems, ensuring program material is correct, available and of sufficient technical quality. Schedule program, promotional, and underwriting material for playout. Review playlists for correctness. Monitor ContentDepot messaging system for program changes and PRSS system information. Liaise with PRSS and network technical personnel. Obtains, schedules and prepares on-air programming and recordings in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC), National Public Radio (NPR) and LPM standards. Coordinates with external agencies (including radio stations, NPR, and distributors) to locate materials for broadcast. Responsible for implementing programming changes due to special events, live network feeds or breaking news events.
The Technical Operations Manager is responsible for technical infrastructure of the radio facility. S/he is required to monitor program delivery and advisories/alerts to ensure timely delivery of programming. Responds to programming and/or technical failures affecting the operation of the on-air broadcast and studios. Maintains studio and on-air equipment. Provides technical support to news and music staff. This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
3+ years of experience in Broadcast Operations/Engineering.
Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, broadcast technology, or similar degree, or equivalent experience.
Experience with ENCO DADpro32 , Visual Traffic, and MusicMaster.
Thorough knowledge of FCC regulations, broadcast, studio and transmission equipment used in broadcasting.
Knowledge of digital audio routers and transmission systems
Ability to operate mixing console, mix sound, edit and train staff in proper studio/recording techniques.
Public radio experience preferred.
