Sustaining Membership Manager

OVERVIEW:

NYPR has over 55,000 sustaining members who give monthly, the program accounts for $8 million in membership revenue, and is projected to grow over 20% in the next year. 

The Sustaining Membership Manager will be responsible for developing strategies for growth and management of the program, for maintaining the day-to-day aspects of this program, working closely with the Sr. Membership Director to keep retention at or above 97%, achieve revenue goals and to grow the program in accordance with aggressive goals.

The Manager will also work in close collaboration with the Gift Processing and Listener Services staff and the Database Manager.

The position is expected to be 75% strategy and 25% oversight of direct customer services (while there will be minimal direct contact with donors, an understanding of processes and customer service procedure is required).  As the program builds the Manager will work with the Sr. Director to improve work flow, including member response.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working closely with Sr. Membership Director and Director of On-Air and Digital Fundraising:
  • Develop and create campaigns to grow the sustaining membership program focusing on new members, upgrading and retaining existing members using on-air, direct marketing and on-line channels. 
  • Working across all NYPR brands (WNYC, WQXR, RadioLab, and others) develop strategies to build existing sustainer loyalty and promote new membership in the program.
  • Work with the Gift Processing Director, Database Manager and database software account representatives to refine and improve existing systems for managing the sustaining membership program.
  • Work with the Sr. Membership Director to develop, refine and improve sustaining member reporting, budgeting and projections.
  • Work with Sr. Director and direct marketing consultants and staff on ways to incorporate conversion and upgrade strategies into the membership department’s overall strategy.
  • Liaise with Development staff to develop strategy for the growing number of sustainers giving at the major gift level.
  • Work closely with Listener Services and Gift Processing staff to ensure the accurate and timely respond inquiries from sustaining members.  And work to continually improve processes, response time and workflow with a goal to maintaining retention, upgrading and cultivating existing sustainers and growing the sustaining membership program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of related experience in fundraising for membership and/or working with similarly sized recurring giving program
  • Advanced knowledge of one or more membership databases (Team Approach, Raisers Edge, other) – required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office products – required
  • Effective oral and written communication skills – required
  • Experience in customer/member service – required
  • Ability to prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously – required
  • Bachelor’s degree – required
  • Supervisory/manager level experience – preferred
  • NYPR listener - preferred
