Overview:   New York Public Radio is seeking a talented graphic designer to lead in-house design efforts as part of the marketing department. This position has the opportunity for a candidate to join New York Public Radio as a full-time employee within our Marketing team. You will have the opportunity to design and develop visual assets for New York Public Radio’s entire suite of brands, including WNYC, classical station WQXR, various shows, podcasts and digital properties, as well as events and series in The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. Duties will include working with outside agencies for adaptation of existing visual assets on digital and print platforms and development and execution of new design concepts such as web banners, print ads, splash pages, title treatments, e-card, invitations, flyers, postcards, presentations and sales decks, and collaborating on the initiatives of the marketing team as a whole. Additional duties include management of photography assets, general brand stewardship, occasional copywriting and strategizing for print, web and social media campaigns. Must be highly committed and creative team player.


  • Collaborate with the marketing department to exercise brand stewardship across our entire portfolio of brands,  whether working with internal clients or directing external partners
  • Work closely with departments across the organization (Underwriting, Membership, Development)  to design print and online sales and marketing collateral, print and online advertising, and other corporate collateral materials such as presentations, proposals, etc.
  • Conceptualize, design and mock-up promotional emails
  • Design and implement assets for use in web sites, online advertising, and social media platforms within existing design standards
  • Assist in the creation of visual concepts for web development
  • Conceptualize, design, and produce visually appealing, marketing materials, including postcards, brochures, programs and more
  • Design and maintain web materials such as web banners, icons, etc.
  • Completes projects by coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.
  • Provide graphic design support for video production and sales presentations
  • Some copywriting/copyediting and other marketing duties as needed


  • BA/BFA in graphic design, multimedia design, communications, or related field 1-2 years experience in graphic design
  • Ability to work under pressure on numerous projects simultaneously with fast turnaround
  • Expert ability with design tools including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to conceptualize and create graphics that engage, attract and excite
  • Comfortable working with internal clients and non-designers to conceptualize and communicate creative solutions
  • Strong graphic design portfolio and the ability to adapt to a variety of client aesthetics
  • Visual problem solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen interest in keeping pace with digital design technology and applications
  • One to three years working experience
  • Portfolio required; portfolio should display experience with variety of media and knowledge of design principles: layout, color theory, typography, etc.
  • Strong typography and layout skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Solid time management and prioritization skills
  • Can take initiative and make decisions as necessary
  • High-level enthusiasm and initiative
