JOB SUMMARY

Assist in producing and editing broadcast interviews and new media content for To the Best of Our Knowledge, a Peabody Award-winning “public radio magazine of ideas” with a national audience of more than 400,000 listeners via 160+ stations.  This is not a hosting position but will include on-air duties.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Produce thought-provoking interviews and programs.

  • Collaborate on production of weekly programs.
  • Research and develop in-depth show themes.
  • Pre-interview, select and book guests from around the globe.
  • Provide interviewers with background material and focused questions.
  • Edit audio, making content decisions about what to include in interviews.
  • Generate sound-rich production segments.
  • Write program scripts and continuity copy for program host.
  • Contribute occasional feature stories, interviews, essays or other on-air content.

 Create innovative new media content.

  • Engage the show’s social media audience.
  • Expand the show’s new media presence through ttbook.org and other platforms.
  • Develop innovative new media projects.

 Contribute to the professional culture of TTBOOK and WPR

  • Comply with Ethics guidelines established by WPR: http://www.uwex.edu/bami/ethics.cfm.
  • Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product and organization interactions, including communication and decision-making. 
  • Demonstrate respect for others in all workplace relationships and interactions

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Consistently generate creative, original ideas for program content
  • Sustained sedentary periods at audio editing work station
  • Aural acuity to discern and correct for barely perceptible variations in recorded sound quality
  • Dexterity to use varied electronic and computer equipment and software for recording and editing audio
  • Comfort learning and using varied software for Web content production

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum two years in radio production or related media producing content for intermediate level, 3-5 years for senior level.
  • Demonstrated excellence editing and producing on digital audio workstations
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in writing web and radio copy
  • Experience managing new media content, including social media campaigns
  • Demonstrated ability to generate original ideas suitable for a national public radio marketplace
  • Wide-ranging curiosity about and familiarity with global trends in culture, politics, science, and the arts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to complete assignments under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage diverse perspectives in content.

DESIRABLE BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in public radio.

Experience with ProTools audio software.

Experience with Web publications and/or creating multimedia content.

 SALARY:   The minimum for this position is $38,000 with actual pay dependent upon qualifications, experience and official title.  UW-Extension offers a comprehensive fringe benefits package, including health insurance, sick leave and vacation.
