Overview:

The Underwriting Business Manager manages the operational policies, contract and billing processes, barter, and other initiatives that support sales operations for New York Public Radio.

Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Underwriting & Integrated Media Sponsorships, the successful candidate will perform a variety of financial management related functions and should come with expert skills in managing and tracking large amounts of sales and revenue data. The Business Manager will also manage the Traffic and Billing functions with a team of four direct reports.

This person must be exceedingly well-organized, flexible and enjoy the administrative challenges of supporting a large office of diverse people and programs while serving as a key financial advisor to the GM.

Responsible for the management and development of key internal sales functions including: sales order entry processing, log reconciliation, billing, responding to inquiries and overseeing the Traffic-related staff

Provide business and financial reporting support for GM & UW Department - Assist in developing metrics and reporting Underwriting key performance indicators that populate a scorecard

Oversee Underwriting Accounts/Receivables including collections, cash application, reconciliations and monthly reporting

Report financial results and prepare reporting procedures on monthly, quarterly, and annual basis

Help manage all budget and cost containment procedures

Review monthly financial close and prepare adjusting entries

Process customer credit inquiries, approving credit terms and maintaining targeted days outstanding

Preparation of sales commission reports and other financial reporting as required

Responsible for managing all trade/barter controls, procedures and reporting

Work on special projects as needed

Qualifications

Accounting, Finance or Business degree

5-7 years of experience in accounting or a financial background

Experience successfully creating and/or modifying administrative processes.

Radio and/or other media traffic experience preferred but not required

Strong communication and organizational skills

Proficiency with Traffic/Billing systems in a media environment, ideally Wide Orbit

Strong understanding of accounting needs/principles

Proficiency in MS Office, and general accounting and database management software

Demonstrated history of preparing and presenting financial/revenue tracking reports

Ability to multitask and work under deadlines

Willingness to make timely decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgment, and include appropriate parties in the decision-making process as necessary.

Build mutually-beneficial relationships with internal customers including Finance, HR, Legal, etc.

Planning and Organization - Results oriented. Prioritize and plan work activities, using time efficiently. Assist in ensuring office functions in an organized manner.

Strong technical aptitude a plus. Position will require learning to use industry-specific software & metrics.

Quality Assurance - Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness. Look for ways to improve and promote quality, and apply feedback from team members to improve performance. Display a commitment to excellence, i.e. a do-what-it-takes attitude.

Self-starter with a proven ability to self-manage, learn quickly and exceed expectations in a performance-driven environment.
