Director of Major Gifts

Position Overview:
New York Public Radio is looking for a dynamic and seasoned development professional to oversee its major gift and planned giving teams as the organization implements its ambitious growth plans. The Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving will report directly to the Vice President of Development and collaborate with other Directors in Development Department and Senior Staff to establish the strategy, program initiatives and stewardship of major donors that support the organization’s work and strategic vision. The Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving will work with brands across the organization generating support for WNYC, WQXR, The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, New Jersey Public Radio, general operations, new content development, digital projects and innovation in public media.
The Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving will be responsible for achieving the $3 million revenue goal for this fiscal year and to set the stage for continued growth in future years. The Director will oversee relationships with New York Public Radio’s existing portfolio of donors and for identifying, cultivating and securing support from new prospects with the capacity to give substantial gifts. The Director is expected to solicit gifts independently, and to collaborate closely and support the VP of Development, CEO and key Board Trustees in strategic outreaches and solicitations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan to achieve major gift revenue goals and expand the program through the development of key relationships, new materials, special events and direct solicitations
- Maintain a working portfolio of individual major and planned gift prospects and current donors
- Manage a team of two major gift officers, one planned giving officer and a major gifts coordinator in maintaining key relationships for all brands
- Expand and diversify our major donor portfolio by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new donors for $25K+ gifts

Grow planned giving program to secure the long-term future of the organization
- Qualify, cultivate and solicit major gifts independently or work in close collaboration with the VP of Development, CEO and individual Board Trustees. Actively meet with prospects and donors to solicit for major gifts and build the prospect pool
- Develop, write and present proposals for Major Donors on specific projects and initiatives
- Manage and monitor overall moves management system
- Liaise with Finance Department to reconcile fundraising revenue and expenses
- Represent organization at special events and outreach opportunities as appropriate
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree at minimum
- Experience leading a team of major gifts professionals and achieving fundraising growth
- Proven track record of major gifts fundraising with at least 5 years of demonstrated success closing five, six and ideally seven-figure gifts in New York City
- Understanding of major gifts and planned giving fundraising best practices and ability to create and execute a tactical plan
- Experience talking to donors about estate planning and knowledge of planned giving instruments
- Ability to work in a team setting, excelling in the position as well as managing a team to be their best
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, analytical and verbal and written communication skills are required
- Ability to work with all departments in the organization to ensure mission is achieved and to make the most of the talent and assets of the organization

ability to analyze data - Ability to thrive in a fast paced organization and rapidly changing industry
