U.S. Senate Confirms Five Nominees to the CPB Board of Directors

Washington, DC (August 02, 2013) -- The United States Senate has confirmed the nominations of Jannette Dates, Bruce Ramer, Brent Nelsen, Howard Husock, and Lori Gilbert to the board of directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).
Dr. Jannette Dates of Baltimore, Maryland is Dean Emerita of the Howard University School of Communications, and a professor in the University's Department of Radio, Television and Film. Previously, Dr. Dates served as a producer/writer/instructor for elementary and secondary school tele-courses for the Baltimore City Public School System. She is the author of "Split Image: African Americans in the Mass Media" as well as numerous articles and reference materials.
Bruce M. Ramer of Los Angeles, California is a returning CPB board member. Mr. Ramer is an entertainment and media attorney with the firm Gang, Tyre, Ramer & Brown. He serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for the National Archives, the board of trustees for the University of Southern California in addition to sitting on the board of councilors of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education.
Dr. Brent Nelsen of Greenville, South Carolina is a Professor of Political Science at Furman University. Dr. Nelsen's teaching and scholarship focus on the politics of Europe and the European Union, as well as on the politics of the international economic system. Dr. Nelsen also serves as chair of the South Carolina Educational Television Commission, having been appointed to the position by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in 2011.
Howard A. Husock of New York City is Vice President for Policy Research at the Manhattan Institute, where he also directs the Institute's Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy Initiative. Previously, Mr. Husock served as director of case studies in public policy and management at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and as a broadcast journalist and documentary filmmaker whose work at WGBH-TV in Boston won three Emmy awards.
Lori Gilbert of Elko, Nevada is a returning CPB board member. She is the news director of KENV-TV News 10 (Intermountain West Communications) and KELK-AM (Elko Broadcasting Company). Ms. Gilbert is a member of the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Elko, and a Church Council Member for the Faith Lutheran Church in Elko.
