CPB Funding Bill Passes in U.S. Senate
Washington, DC -- Last night, the United States Senate passed its version of Fiscal Year 2008 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education (Labor-HHS) appropriations bill, which provides funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The vote was 75 to 19.
The bill provides CPB a $420 million advance appropriation for FY 2010 as well as $29.7 million for digital conversion, $26.75 million for the public radio interconnection and $25.2 million for Ready To Learn for FY 2008. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a similar version in July.
"We appreciate the Senate's continued support and recognition of public service media's vital role in our communities," said Pat Harrison, CPB President and CEO. Public broadcasting is a trusted source for news and information and a constant source of inspiration for so many Americans."
The House and Senate will now work on a final version of the bill.
