The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Presents Awards for Impact in Education
Washington, DC -- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting presented its My Source Community Impact Awards for Education to 44 public broadcasting stations Saturday night at the Council of Chief State School Officers/Public Broadcasting Executive Summit.
The My Source Community Impact Awards for Education were created by CPB to acknowledge public television stations for their commitment to education through outstanding services to students, teachers, parents, caregivers and lifelong learners in their communities.
"The work of these award-winning stations demonstrates the breadth of public media's educational contributions nationwide and the depth of impact on individual learners and their families," said Pat Harrison, president and CEO of CPB. "CPB congratulates these stations for their important commitment to community and our country through education."
Stations crafted educational initiatives which best responded to the needs of their citizens -- from early childhood services for teachers, parents and caregivers, to programs aimed specifically at teens or students with disabilities. Young children in high poverty areas were able to attend reading camps and improve their vocabularies; adults were able to earn a high school diploma online with help from their public television stations; and childcare providers learned invaluable skills to use in their day care centers.
Many of these stations worked with key partners in their cities to maximize impact and results. With classrooms strained nationwide, public media is responding to the diverse educational needs of its communities with innovative on-air, online, at-home and in-school programs.
