An American Experience city-biography two-hour special on New Orleans that explored the city's cultural heritage, racial history, class structures and struggles against the forces of nature over the course of a century, from Reconstruction after the Civil War to school desegregation in the 1960s, and provided a historical context for the issues raised by the Katrina and Rita hurricanes.
