The Metropolitan Opera
A six-part series of newly staged operas and world premieres from New York's Metropolitan Opera and presented by WNET/New York. The operas will be produced in high-definition video, first transmitted live for Saturday matinees at movie theaters with satellite downloads and HD projectors, and then broadcast four to six weeks later on PBS. Julie Taymor's production of Mozart's Magic Flute will launch the series with the first live HD feed to movie theaters on December 30, 2006, followed by a PBS primetime broadcast of the performance on January 24, 2007. Subsequent performances will be aired monthly during daytime PBS broadcasts on Saturdays through June 16, 2007. The operas will also be available for Web streaming from PBS.org for viewing at home and in the classroom.
