Salary Reports

CPB is once again pleased to present a biennial salary report for the public broadcasting system. We provide this information in an effort to assist stations in making informed decisions for their salary structures.

Radio

Data for the report was gathered through the Radio Station Activities Survey. Within each report the information is presented in the aggregate as well as broken down by budget size and license type.

Television and Joint Licensees

The Station Activities Benchmarking Survey (SABS) provides station personnel and salary data for the pre-defined station cohort/peer groups. The information provided includes:

  1. Headcount (i.e., how many people occupy that position type within the station cohort group selected)
  2. Mean salary
  3. Median salary
  4. Average low salary (average of the three lowest salaries for the position in the selected cohort group)
  5. Average high salary (average of the three highest salaries for the position in the selected cohort group)

NO individual station's salary information is available through the online reporting system. Also, any position that has a headcount of three or fewer in a given station cohort report will not display salaries.

More Detailed Salary Information

For more detailed information, access the online reporting system to generate a salary report. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the SABS page.
  2. Select SABS Reports under Related Documents.
  3. At the prompt, enter your station’s administrative user ID and password information. Your station’s SABS contact (typically the GM or CFO) maintains password information. Each station has two passwords:
    1. Administrative password — allows access to the same financial and operational information but also allows further access to the salary reports and to the permissions forms that allow stations to share data.
    2. General password — allows access to only the current year and archived financial and operational reports.
  4. At the bottom of the Reporting System page, you can select the type of report you would like to generate. To run a salary report, select the GO button found to the right of Salary Report.
  5. Follow the three steps to design and run your custom reports for the desired station cohort groups.
  6. To see details of the station cohort groups (which licensees are in each cohort), go to the bottom of the page and select View Peer Groups.
