Importing SABS data into Excel

In Step 1 of the SABS Reporting System, choose the 'Delimited Data Report in Column Format' option.

Choose the desired sections and peer groups in Steps 2 and 3.

Click 'Run Report' in Step 4.

Once the report displays, save it to your hard drive as a Text (.txt) file:

  1. Go to the "File" menu,
  2. select the "Save As" function,
  3. choose a file name and location on your computer when prompted,
  4. and save the file as type 'text' (.txt).

Once this Text file is saved, open MS Excel.

  1. Start with a blank worksheet in Excel and go to the "Data" menu,
  2. select the "Import External Data" function and the "Import Data" sub-function,
  3. when prompted, browse to the text file that you created.

You will now be using the MS Excel Text Import Wizard.

  1. Choose 'Delimited' File Type and 'Start Import at Row 2', click 'Next',
  2. select 'Other' Delimiters, and in the box next to 'Other' type | (a vertical bar) and click 'Next',
  3. click 'Finish', choose where you want to save the worksheet, and click 'OK'.

The data should now be imported into Excel and placed in the appropriate columns. You can now save this Excel file on your local computer and begin crunching numbers.
