Resolved,
That the Board of Directors
of the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting
Expresses its Deep Appreciation and Recognition of
Malcolm Brett
Director of Broadcast and Media Innovations of University of Wisconsin-Extension
The Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes the extraordinary contributions to public media of Mr. Malcolm Brett on the occasion of his retirement.
As director of broadcast and media innovations of University of Wisconsin-Extension, Malcolm has overseen Wisconsin Public Television and Wisconsin Public Radio, keeping “The Wisconsin Idea” — that knowledge and education should be freely shared among all citizens — at the core of public media’s mission statewide.
Over his 35-year career with the Wisconsin public media system, Malcolm served in many important roles, including development director of Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) and executive director of Friends of WPT. During his tenure, WPT provided extraordinary content and engagement services for and about military veterans, including the groundbreaking “LZ Lambeau” and led the CPB-supported Veterans Coming Home initiative.
Malcolm is greatly respected across public media for his expertise and leadership. With his encyclopedic knowledge and collaborative spirit of service, Malcolm has been a much-sought-after and valued member of many regional and national public broadcasting organizations, including the University Licensee Association and the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism. Malcolm promoted and informed new community engagement practices among stations through his leadership of the CPB-supported National Center for Outreach and the National Center for Media Engagement. He has served on the boards of numerous organizations including American Public Television, the Affinity Group Coalition, and PBS, for which he served as vice chair. He has generously shared his knowledge and wisdom with CPB and the public media system through service on CPB’s Television Community Service Grant review panels and briefings at industry gatherings.
We mark the end of his distinguished service to the University of Wisconsin, to the people of Wisconsin, and to public media with respect, admiration and gratitude.
