Stephen Wilkins is Senior Vice President, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. He is responsible for the development and implementation of a strategy that builds on CPB’s commitment to ensuring that the values of diversity and inclusion are embedded across the entire organization.
Dr. Wilkins joined CPB from Alexandria City Public Schools in Alexandria, Va., where he served as Chief Human Resources Officer and later as Chief of Staff. During the pandemic, he served on the senior leadership team that restructured the organization, recruited diverse leaders for schools and departments, and developed the division's five-year strategic plan focused on equity and inclusion.
Prior to his work in education, Dr. Wilkins served on the Pentagon staff and commanded at the company, battalion, and brigade levels, leading soldiers, civilians, and contractors to mission success. He also served on the faculty at West Point as an assistant professor of political science. He has worked in Mexico, Central America, South America, the Caribbean, and Canada.
Dr. Wilkins holds a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a master's degree in public administration (MPA) from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and a master's degree in strategy (MSS) from the senior service college at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He holds a doctorate in administration and leadership from the Richard W. Riley College of Education at Walden University.
