Director of Broadcasting, Blue Lake Public Radio

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp seeks applicants for Director of Broadcasting for its public radio stations. Blue Lake Public Radio (WBLU & WBLV), which serves the Grand Rapids metro and the broader West Michigan region with two transmitters, has been providing classical music, jazz, and NPR news programs to its audience since 1982. The Director of Broadcasting fulfills the role of General Manager for the station, as well as participates as an integral part of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp’s leadership group. The Director of Broadcasting completes a range of responsibilities, such as:

  • Providing programming guidance in keeping with the organization’s mission
  • Fulfilling all FCC, CPB, NPR, and other industry-standard requirements
  • Establishing and managing an annual budget
  • Establishing and maintaining underwriting accounts and relationships with area foundations, major donors, and area arts organizations
  • Designing and implementing membership mailings and on-air fund drives
  • Managing a staff of full-time employees as well as volunteers
  • Participating as member of the organization’s senior management team

The ideal candidate for this position will serve as an effective advocate for the organization within the community, bringing a positive, energetic, and entrepreneurial spirit to the station. Requirements include holding a Bachelor's degree or equivalent of education and/or experience in a related field; administrative, managerial, and organizational skills; experience in public (or commercial) broadcasting; extensive background in development; on-air experience preferred along with knowledge of Classical Music and Jazz. Must be willing to work non-traditional hours during peak season.

Located in Muskegon County in West Michigan, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Inc. is a well-established, nationally recognized non-profit organization comprised of three major divisions, including a summer school of the arts, an international exchange program, and a classical and jazz public radio station. In operation for 55 years, Blue Lake annually serves 6,000 students and families, approximately 35,000 radio listeners, and countless concert goers as a part of its mission to further arts education for all.

Blue Lake seeks to fill the Director of Broadcasting position immediately, with a start date of September 7, 2021.
