Connecticut Public, home to Connecticut Public Television, Connecticut Public Radio (WNPR), and various digital outlets, is seeking an experienced digital specialist to join our Underwriting Team. General Summary

Responsibilities will include selling a growing portfolio of digital media properties, connecting businesses and non-profits to Connecticut Public's diverse audiences.  This position is expected to prospect, conduct needs assessments, create and present proposals, and service accounts.

In this relationship-building role our new hire will contact key decision-makers businesses across Connecticut, meet with them to understand their marketing needs, and develop proposals that focus on digital marketing solutions to help them grow their businesses.  

The ideal applicants must have demonstrated effectiveness in a collaborative, highly team-oriented environment, possess initiative, self-motivation, work with minimal supervision and demonstrating, at all times, respect for diverse constituencies.

In addition to a proven track-record in sales performance, this position requires digital sales experience, and an in-depth understanding of digital media. 

Essential Job Functions

Applicants must have the ability to complete the following essential job functions:

  • Develop and implement sales plans that meet the Company’s strategic and revenue goals, specifically as these goals relate to the organization's digital underwriting revenue.
  • Act as a team leader within the Underwriting Department for all things related to the digital sales process. 
  • Proactively identifies upsell opportunities and effectively communicates opportunities to underwriting team and prospective clients;
  • Form strategic business partnerships by developing and servicing new accounts through prospecting and meeting with businesses and organizations;
  • Prepare advertising schedules, promotional plans, sales literature, proposals and sales contracts using either self-designed content, or that provided by team members;
  • Manage a high volume of large, medium and small accounts, to include assigned key and target national accounts, including inventory management ensuring the protection/utilization of the company’s existing rate structure;
  • Learn and fully understand the business objectives and advertising strategies of prospects and clients in order to best fulfill their advertising and creative needs;
  • Identify and monitor sales trends locally, nationally, and recommend action steps;
  • Develop creative, solution oriented, customer-focused revenue programs and ancillary sales projects;
  • Keep current advertisers, as well as prospects, informed about programming, pricing, packages, special opportunities, market research and trends while maintaining frequent personal contact with spot offices, agencies and statewide clients;
  • In addition to digital products, promote and sell--when applicable--TV, radio advertising, digital products, events, and promotional programs to existing clients.
  • Develop additional accounts by consistently cold-calling and creating relationships with new advertising customers.

Responsibilities

An Digital Sales Specialist has many responsibilities.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with departments throughout the organization, including but not limited to Content, Digital, Development, and Marketing to provide consultative and strategic marketing guidance for clients and client prospects.
  • Accurately project revenues, meet or exceed budgets for all product lines and achieve annual budgets;
  • Manage an active account list, including inventory management ensuring the protection/utilization of the company’s existing rate structure;
  • Work with the Underwriting Team members to grow their digital business;
  • Meet with the Underwrting Team to ensure progression and success within stated goals.
  • Engage with, develop, maintain, and grow external relationships;
  • Prepare advertising schedules, promotional plans, sales literature, proposals and sales contracts using either self-designed content, or that provided by team members;
  • Enter new customer data and other sales contract details for clients into CRM database;
  • Investigate and resolve client issues;
  • Manage account post-sale by taking lead on process and carrying out the campaign strategy 
  • Track audience delivery and provide insights for optimization and upsell.
  • Participate in market meetings and training sessions; and
  • Assist in promotions, outreach, and other fund-raising activities, including on-air and live events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Digital sales
  • Digital media products and best practices;
  • Broadcast radio and television sales knowledge is helpful, but not required. 
  • Working with large accounts, operating in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple and changing priorities simultaneously; and
  • Navigating complex organizations and making the right internal and external connections to drive work forward, while anticipating potential shifts in work.

Skill In:

  • Self-motivation and entrepreneurship.We’re looking for a self-starter with bold and innovative ideas and the drive to succeed;
  • All aspects of digital sales, including use of quantitative/qualitative research, event development, and multiple-platform/integrated sales expertise; and
  • Working in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) and social networking platforms; and
  • CRM platforms, preferably SalesForce.

Ability to:

  • Create thoughtful and persuasive professional visual presentations and proposals;   
  • Be receptive to change as media strategy and market demands dictate;
  • Meet tight deadlines, prioritize effectively to achieve/exceed goals, and perform under pressure
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in diverse situations;
  • Gather and/or analyze market data, conduct research, define problems, and establish facts in order to draw valid conclusions as a change agent; and
  • Lead multiple projects concurrently while paying close attention to detail.

Work Environment
Job functions are typically performed under conditions similar to those found in general office or administrative work.  This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. Duties are routinely performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; however, evening and weekend support will be necessary.  In-state travel up to 75% of the time is required.  Job functions are typically performed under conditions similar to those found in general office or administrative work.  This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, salary exempt position.  Duties are routinely performed Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.; however, evening and weekend support will be required.   Reliable transportation and the ability to travel up to 75% of the time is required.  Station vehicle is often available for use; mileage paid for use of own transportation. All travel is local to the state of Connecticut.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related-field AND/OR minimum equivalent of three (3) years’ experience in media sales with proven track record of success in all aspects of digital sales. 

Salary 
$50,000.00 to $60,000.00

*This position has bonus potential, contingent upon achievement of established sales goals.   Goals are set annually and reviewed quarterly.
