GBH’s News seeks to inform, educate, and enlighten our audience on both the News of the day and the News in historical context through in-depth, high-quality journalism using the best tools and methods of the craft. WGBH always seeks to report on and facilitate discussion of the news with integrity, fairness, balance, accuracy, and civility; GBH News also seeks to tell the stories of and allow expression of the diversity of voices that make up our entire community.    



GBH News is looking for an energetic producer to work closely with the show’s executive producers on all aspects of Greater Boston and other local television productions. The candidate should be well-versed in current affairs, an excellent writer, creative, detail-oriented, a skilled multi-tasker, and a team player. A positive attitude and willingness to jump in wherever needed are musts. Experience in news and broadcast media is required.



  • Write and produce multiple show segments each day.

  • Line produce live-to-tape and some live shows.

  • Generate story, discussion, and guest ideas

  • Write-host packages as needed.

  • Coordinate visual assets for shows, including feeds from other networks, web, and GBH archives.

  • Fact-check information by phone and other sources

  • Work with digital team on social and web presence

  • Produce stories.

  • Work with and train interns.

  • Assist executive producers and contributors in all areas of production, including story set-up and fieldwork.

  • occasional field producing

  • Tease/promotion writing

  • Research story ideas, news background and material needed for show production



  • Professional demeanor, responsible, mature and adaptable to changing situations, along with the ability to work with multiple internal departments

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, keeping production team and others up to date on changes and vital and important information

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to write, copy-edit and proofread work for tone, clarity, spelling and grammar on the air (fonts/chyrons/lower thirds) and written work

  • Self-motivated with willingness to learn, try things out, work on ideas

  • Ability to see other people’s points of view and welcome constructive feedback

  • Proven experience in problem-solving and critical-thinking practices within a culturally diverse working environment

  • Ability to manage workload effectively

  • Must be comfortable with working autonomously for periods of time and with a group



Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. Candidates must have 2-6 years of line producing experience as well as knowledge of Greater Boston news topics and newsmakers. Experience line producing and writing for news required. Experience using digital formats and social media platformsrequired. Editorial experience and news judgement, including ability to quickly pivot from one story to another and adjust show in the event of breaking news

Ability to stay late or work odd hours on occasion or as necessary
