The GBH Development Division includes ~39 staff members and seeks to raise approximately $28 million annually from individuals and foundations (including restricted, unrestricted, and planned gifts) in support of GBH’s major initiatives, productions and programs across the entire organization, including, but not limited to, American Experience, FRONTLINE, MASTERPIECE, NOVA, and Children’s Media and Education. The Division also seeks philanthropy to support local journalism and radio—including 89.7, CRB 99.5 classical music, CAI-Cape and Islands—and other content and services that benefit audiences across the Commonwealth and nationwide.



The Senior Development Officer (SDO) reports to the Sr. Director of Development, Major Annual Giving. The SDO is a senior member of the Major Annual Giving team, which is responsible for raising over $6 million in gifts annually through GBH’s patron program, the Ralph Lowell Society (RLS). In addition to managing a portfolio of leadership annual fund prospects and donors, the SDO plays a key role in patron program strategy and works closely with the Sr. Director to build out offerings and services that improve donor engagement and inspire increased support of GBH. With a restructure of the patron program and giving levels underway, GBH’s Major Annual Giving team is innovating for growth and the SDO will be a vital participant in this work.



  • Manage a portfolio of 150-180 leadership annual prospects and donors.

  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals through meetings in-person and on Zoom, phone and written communication, and engagement at events.

  • Execute solicitations of annual unrestricted grant making foundations.

  • Work closely with RLS committee volunteers on strategies to engage friends and networks with GBH.

  • Develop stewardship strategies to strengthen donor retention.

  • Prepare proposals, briefings and reports and meet regularly with donors.



  • Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability working independently and within a team.

  • Knowledge of Salesforce and/or other relational databases.



Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 5-8 years of development experience
