• Install, operate, and maintain translators/transmitters and associated equipment at Digital Television and Radio/IBOC Radio sites, National Weather Service transmitter facilities locally and by remote control in accordance with FCC regulations, state and federal government, and service contract agreements, to provide and maintain a quality signal, and to make transmitter and associated equipment repairs.
• Monitor transmitter operation continuously to ensure and maintain proper transmitted picture and sound levels of TV signals and audio quality of FM signals.
• Ensures highest quality during production and broadcasting, this includes configurations, modifications, and monitoring various types of signal distribution systems such as Selenio processors and related networking equipment for Ethernet, DS3 and T1 fed sites.
• Conforms to the organization's and clients technical operating, professional, and legal standards by inspecting and performing necessary tests to ensure sites are operational, to include testing and reparing transmitter equipment including AC switch gear, pumps, transmission line and transformers, remote monitoring system, signal distribution equipment, video and audio monitors, and other associated equipment
• Takes remedial action when indicated and performs preventative maintenance as scheduled or emergency repairs as required and
• Documents and maintains required information and records as needed and responds to questions, concerns, etc. from both internal and external clients and keeps management and co-workers informed.
• Investigates computer problems and brings computer back on line; uses computers to interact with office duties as well as daily operations and tasks; archives computer records; may install software and hardware in computer..
• Configures, operates, and maintains remote control systems for television and radio transmitters and related monitored equipment at sites as assigned as well as verifying proper operation of alarm notifications and alerting procedures.
• Bachelor’s degree or high school diploma or GED with additional vocational/technical training in Electronics, Broadcast Engineering, Communications Technology, or related field required;
• Two or more years of experience in electronics, RF equipment technology, electronic repair, or a related field required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Basic networking skills required to configure and troubleshoot IP based broadcast equipment and signal flow in broadcast LAN environment.
• Must stay abreast of existing technology and technological changes in the industry.
• Ability to be on 24-hour call as deemed necessary and travel to monitors sites in the southern region. Must be able to work evenings and weekends, on occasion. Valid driver’s license.
