Our Senior Producers are key players in both daily news coverage as well as in shaping the future direction of our newsroom. They are multi-platform journalists, familiar with the needs of broadcast radio but who also have extensive and sophisticated skills in writing and editing news content for the web and for using social media to distribute serious, issue-oriented journalism to the widest audience.
For this particular position, we’re putting an emphasis on web and social media skills. Our senior producers know what makes a good digital story and are adept at both transforming radio scripts into compelling digital pieces as well as reporting and writing their own original content. They know what goes into crafting a compelling digital piece, everything from writing headlines, to sourcing images to creating charts, graphics and other multimedia elements. Experience working with social media and audience engagement is a plus.
We’re looking for candidates who are also innovative and enterprising, who are able to work with our team of broadcast journalists to develop story elements especially for the web and who may have had experience fostering collaborations with other news organizations.
We’re looking for passionate journalists to help us in our quest to create stronger, more engaging news content. Houston is one of the most dynamic local news markets anywhere. Working in our newsroom offers very few opportunities to be bored but many chances to report consequential stories often of national importance. We’re part of “The Texas Newsroom” project, collaborating with NPR and Texas public radio stations to produce statewide newscasts, radio features, and web stories.
