Job Description:

Iowa Public Radio is looking for a features-focused content creator to join our Digital team as Digital Producer – Talk Shows. This person will work in collaboration with the Digital Director and digital team to grow IPR’s digital audience, maximizing the digital impact of the talk show team’s efforts through creating compelling content from their work. To do this, the Digital Producer - Talk Shows works with the team to select and develop audio for digital audio distribution in web stories and as podcast episodes; builds, edits, and publishes web stories and features; and creates other content for audiences across IPR’s digital platforms. The Digital Producer - Talk Shows relies on audience data and testing to support their decision-making, and is additionally responsible for weekly analysis and sharing of high and low performing content with the talk show team and digital staff. 

The Digital Producer - Talk Shows also maintains a content and platform workflow calendar, and is responsible for daily content creation deadlines around writing, publishing and promoting talk and talk-related stories on the website and newsblog. This position maintains and builds upon existing engagement initiatives, and supports IPR’s newsletter portfolio by sub-writing a portion of Daily Digest and Chatter, also serving as the secondary back-up writer for both newsletters. Additionally, this role serves as the primary back-up writer for the daily newsblog.

  • $40,000 - $55,803


  • At least one year of experience as either an intern or full-time employee in a professional journalism or media organization;
  • Experience working in multimedia and digital platforms and knowledge of content promotion strategies;
  • Experience working with digital audio editing software; 
  • Familiarity with AP writing style and demonstrated skills in writing for print;
  • Firm foundation in journalism ethics, news gathering and reporting techniques; 
  • Experience creating and optimizing content for search results; 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; and
  • A valid state-issued driver’s license and reliable transportation.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Media Production, Communications, English, or related field experience;
  • Familiarity with a broad range of news and information topics;
  • Direct experience in video or photojournalism, using visual media to tell a story;
  • Experience building a personality and presence on at least one social media platform; and
  • A love for the internet, storytelling, and serving an informed public.
