Job Description:

Jackson Hole Community Radio has an immediate opening for a dynamic journalist to help shape the station’s first news department. This a unique opportunity to join an invigorated, growing public media organization in one of the most beautiful places in the country.

People are indeed drawn to Jackson Hole for the area’s scenic charm and recreational opportunities, but residents are also deeply civically engaged. Teton County voter turnout has hovered around 96 percent for the last three general elections and listeners demand context, nuance and perspective when it comes to the area’s pressing issues—a historic housing crisis, the growing pains of a conservation mecca reliant on a tourism-based economy, massive economic inequality, and marginalized populations fighting for a seat at the table, just to name a few.

The reporter/producer will help to uncover the untold angles of these and other meaningful stories. They will help produce a daily newscast, work on in-depth features, long-term investigations, multimedia packages, podcasts and more.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Share newscast reporting and production duties with the news director

  • Research, write, produce and voice radio news spots and features

  • Research and write digital stories

  • Contact, interview and cultivate relationships with an array of sources

  • Practice outstanding news judgment

  • Represent the station at public events and forums

  • Stay informed on local, regional, national and international news

Skills and Experience

  • An eye, and ear, for what makes a compelling story

  • Excellent writing skills and ability to distill complex information

  • Multimedia experience preferred

  • Strong on-air presence

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends

  • A commitment to ethical, accurate journalism

  • At least two years of journalism experience
