KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, is looking for a strong writer and communicator to join the KERA Communications Team. KERA is seeking a Communications Coordinator to join our team and help tell our story in a way that inspires greater support from our listeners, members and major donors. The Communications Coordinator will write creative, compelling copy that articulates KERA’s mission for its audience, staff and community stakeholders. The Coordinator’s main responsibilities will include writing and editing strategic fundraising messaging, internal/staff communications, press releases and other messaging on behalf of KERA TV, KERA FM, KXT FM and Art&Seek. The Coordinator will also be responsible for cultivating and maintaining press relations and a press archive. This is an entry-level position that welcomes creativity and opportunities for growth and professional development.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Writes, edits and assists in strategic fundraising messaging on behalf of KERA FM, KERA TV and KXT
Writes, edits and assists in on-air fundraising messaging
Develops and deploys internal communications in consultation with the Station Relations Manager
Reviews outward-facing departmental communications in consultation with the Station Relations Manager
Upholds and advances KERA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets of internal and external communication
Develops organizational press releases and occasionally acts as press contact
Develops and maintains press records on behalf of the communications team
Works closely with the Audience Team on strategy and coordination of key initiatives and audience engagement
Assists in creating promotional web content for KXT and KERA, as needed
Perform related duties as assigned by management
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
This is a full-time, entry-level communications position. A successful candidate should have a bachelor's degree in communications, PR, journalism or marketing; as well as 1-2 years of work experience in a professional or internship setting. Proven advanced skills in writing, copy editing, proofreading and communications are essential. Experience in crafting compelling fundraising communications also is key, as is the ability to complete multiple tasks on deadline.
Intern or work experience in a media, nonprofit, marketing or public relations environment is a plus. This position works frequently with other teams across the organization and must be both a team player and a self-starter. The individual must also be innovative, creative and an accountable problem solver.
Must have a strong command of the following software: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other Office applications.

Familiarity with the public broadcasting system and experience writing for TV or radio is a plus, but not required.
KERA is currently operating remotely due to the pandemic, and this job will primarily be performed remotely at this time. We expect that this position will eventually work out of our office on either a full or part-time basis.
