Title: KGOU Podcast and Special Projects Producer/Reporter

KGOU public radio is looking for an energetic producer/reporter who likes distinctive storytelling, solving mysteries and meeting interesting people to produce the station’s signature podcast, memorable features and special projects that engage our diverse audience.
The successful candidate will produce the popular How Curious podcast that explores legends, oddities and personalities across the state, develop culturally important special projects and serve as a face of the station at community engagement events. This new Reporter/Producer position may occasionally cover breaking news, file national spot news, host a special program or event, and create new podcasts and other programming.
We are looking for a strong storyteller who will be collaborative, strategic, innovative and engaging and can develop interesting stories that stand out and make a difference. The successful candidate will be able to discover, imagine and produce unique stories that connect with our listeners, including those in traditionally under-served communities.
KGOU is an NPR member station with a reputation for strong local, state and regional reporting. We have won many awards, including ten Oklahoma Associated Press Sweepstakes/Outstanding News Operation Awards and five regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or other appropriate area of study;
- One or more years of journalism experience
- Experience with web posting, social media, photography, audio gathering and editing;
- Effective interpersonal communication, writing, speaking and time management skills;
- Knowledge of AP style.
This full-time, non-exempt position regularly works weekdays, although occasional work after hours or on weekends can be expected. Must be able to travel and walk long distances while carrying equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Hourly salary rate is commensurate with experience, with University of Oklahoma benefits. The position is open until filled.
