About KPCW:
KPCW is the Wasatch Back’s NPR affiliate. We strive to be an anchor in our community that listens deeply, surfaces untold stories, presents fact-based information that builds awareness, empathy and engagement among the diverse communities we serve. While we carry certain NPR shows and headlines, our focus is to connect and inform our listeners with hyperlocal news stories, showcase local arts and cultural organizations and events, support area nonprofits and businesses, promote tourism across the region and provide emergency first response information and resources.
Position Overview:
KPCW is seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Editor / Writer to help craft our news product across all platforms. The ideal candidate will have a passion for journalism, strong leadership skills and an understanding of local and regional issues. Reporting to the News Director, the Managing Editor / Writer will help lead the newsroom and daily news coverage, ensuring KPCW delivers timely, accurate and compelling content across all platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize the daily flow of the newsroom to ensure timely filing of news stories to meet strict daily newscast deadlines
- Help develop and guide daily news coverage and editorial agenda
- Lead editing efforts for news content, ensuring accuracy, clarity and adherence to journalistic standards
- Develop and help implement editorial strategies to enhance news coverage and audience engagement
- Monitor news trends, social media and audience feedback to adapt and improve coverage
- Join KPCW at community events, meetings and other public forums
- Maintain ethical standards and foster a culture of integrity and professionalism within the newsroom
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a newsroom environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
- Proven track record of producing high-quality news content
- Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of journalistic principles and ethics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
- Proficiency with AP Style
- Proficiency with digital news platforms and social media
- Familiarity with issues and topics relevant to Park City, Summit County, Heber and Wasatch County and the broader Utah region is preferred.
