This position is responsible for the front desk reception of KUT/KUTX Public Radio, including coordinating logistical and administrative activities. This role manages several key aspects of operations, supports station staff, and contributes to a positive and growth-oriented team through building trustworthy relationships. This role has the potential for significant learning and growth opportunities.



  • Contributes positively to the team within the administrative office. Frequently communicates issues of importance to appropriate station staff. Seeks or offers assistance when needed and available as directed by supervisor.

  • Greets and provides hospitality for guests. Assists with special events and receptions. Assists with Studio 1A performance arrangements as needed. Checks station general e-mail and responds to or forwards messages as appropriate. Assists with KUT audience communication.

  • Performs administrative tasks as needed and directed by supervisor. Maintains calendar and programs for scheduling employee vacation, holidays, special events, programming, and other important dates. Updates the KUT/X Wiki as needed and maintains the front desk manual.

  • Provides administrative support for station's administrative office. Maintains office supply inventory and ordering for all departments. Maintains files. Assists with hiring and supervising student staff members as needed. Maintains UT driver training records.

  • Provides customer service for station listeners, visitors, guests, and callers. Staffs the front desk reception area while KUT is open to public. Answers, screens, and routes incoming telephone calls. Responds to inquiries from listeners, visitors and employees (in person, by e-mail and by telephone).

  • Other related functions as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus one year of relevant administrative experience.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, ability to engage, and be motivated in the work environment.

  • Ability to take initiative in working both independently and in cooperation with others, as well as prioritize work and complete it in a timely manner.

  • Effective communication via email, phone, and in-person, with excellent and respectful oral, written, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in taking initiative and seeking solutions within boundaries of the role, including understanding when to rely on independent judgment and when to collaborate in decision making.


Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years working as an administrative assistant in an office setting.

  • Experience with University of Texas operating systems such as:  DEFINE, UT Market, UT DIRECT, and Workday.

  • Experience with Slack and/or Asana

  • Knowledge and understanding of UT Austin policies and procedures.

Salary Range

$29,000 - $32,000 + depending on qualifications (salary prorated based on 30 hours per week)

Work Shift

  • Hours per week - 30

  • The work schedule is 9am-3:30pm, M-F

  • This position requires in-person, onsite work at the KUT/X Public Media Studios

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
