WKAR, Michigan State University’s NPR and PBS public media outlet, seeks our next Senior Director of Technology to shepherd us into our second century of serving the public.  WKAR has long been a pioneer in broadcast technology.  Our AM radio station was first licensed in 1922, and our experimental NexGen TV signal went on the air in 2018.  As Senior Director of Technology, you will work with all types of broadcast tech.  While you do not need to be an expert in all facets of broadcast technology, we are looking for someone with initiative to gain the understanding necessary to keep WKAR at the cutting-edge.

The Senior Director of Technology for WKAR will be an innovative and collaborative professional who strategizes the broadcast and information technology systems that are used across media platforms (TV, Radio, Digital) and the organization. You will oversee the daily technical operations, while keeping the organization at the forefront of technological trends. The role includes advising, managing, budgeting and being hands-on. Also includes successfully navigating technologies and forward planning to identify necessary equipment replacements and up-grades. You will also oversee the areas responsible for the maintenance and installation of broadcast and IT equipment, to include systems and equipment used at the transmitter, in the studios, control rooms, server rooms and edit suites. You will report directly to the Director of Broadcast Services and work collaboratively throughout the organization and with external partners.

This position will also enjoy the spectacular benefits that Michigan State University has to offer. In addition to salary, Michigan State University provides its staff with a variety of benefits, which are among the best in the profession. Among the most important are a retirement program, health, prescription drug, dental, and life coverage.
