Robert Half’s Executive Search division has been exclusively retained by Maine Public to recruit their next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Maine Public, a state-wide community licensee, is an independently owned and operated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with office and studio locations in Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, and Bangor, Maine.

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, this role involves overseeing the administrative and financial aspects of Maine Public, including comprehensive financial analysis, reporting, and the management of Human Resources and Facilities.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Oversees administrative functions of the organization, including working with the CEO to provide guidance to the Leadership Team on achievement of strategic goals.
  • Leads the financial team in planning, analysis, budgeting, and reporting, with a strong commitment to best practices of nonprofit accounting.
  • Directs custody, investment, and audit of corporate funds.
  • Ensures strong financial controls, including staffing, external audit, and legal.
  • Maintains appropriate balance of expense control and revenue generation, partners with managers in controlling costs and evaluating growth opportunities.
  • Provides financial leadership and support to execute growth strategies in areas such as capital campaigns and new business opportunities.
  • Oversees reporting to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and ensures compliance with CPB requirements.
  • Formulates policies for and directs management of facilities, including maintenance, renovation, and security.
  • Reviews corporate assets and exposure and ensures adequate property and liability insurance coverage.
  • Oversees the Human Resources department and supervises the HR Director.
  • Serves as management representative regarding labor relations and personnel matters.
  • Works with HR Director to maintain cooperative relationship with the labor union.
  • Manages external relationships with constituencies including Board of Trustees, government officials, and legal and financial vendors. Directs all other financial/administrative activities.
  • Other reasonably related duties as assigned.


 

Requirements

Education & Certification/License Credentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree expected; master’s degree, CPA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with regular travel throughout the state required.
