Main Purpose Of Job

The incumbent will support the Production Operations department in the area of television audio, music production, and post-production audio. To ensure that programs maintain a high standard of technical excellence. 

 

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Operate a wide variety of audio equipment in a television facility including, but not limited to, control rooms, mobile tele-production trucks, and remote field recording and mixing.

Record, edit and mix programs in the post-production process in order to re-record a final mix onto a completed video master tape/disc (or appropriate medium).

Record live musicians and narrators for MPT productions, digitizing audio and video on digital audio workstations for the purpose of adding music and sound effects to match the video portion of the programs.

Communicate with producers and clients concerning future projects and productions.

Work collaboratively with producers to express the emotion or content of certain programs that the producer wants the technician to capture.

Recommend to the producer what time is best logically to record certain elements that are part of a program, and the format of the recording.

Make technical recommendations regarding music, sound effects, and logistics for a particular scene.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. 

 

Experience: Four (4) years of television video production experience operating a wide variety of audio equipment for the purpose of adding music and sound effects to match the video portion of the programs.

 

Note:

 

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of television video production experience operating a wide variety of audio equipment for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following.  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).


 

Experience with solid state logic digital audio consoles, Pro Tools systems with D-Command controller, a variety of digital and analog audio mixing consoles.

 

Experience with multi-track recorders, digital audio workstations, computer routers for signal path delegation, a variety of microphones, amplifiers and loudspeaker equipment used for television production.

 

Experience with audio signal processing equipment, sound reinforcement mixers, reel to reel, audio cassette, compact disc, cart machines, turntables, digital audio tape (DAT) recorders, Digicarts, Shortcuts, Instant Replays, IFB communications equipment and RTS intercom and routing equipment (both analog and digital), telephone interface equipment, Telos Zephyr ISDN codecs and all remote truck audio equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 Applicants are required to provide a copy of a demo reel or link for a demo reel, if selected for an interview.

 This position may require a flexible work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. 

 This position may require working outside in unfavorable or harsh weather conditions that might include exposure to the sun, wind, water, etc. 

 This position may include long periods of walking, standing, climbing, and maneuvering in and around tight spaces. 

 The selected candidate will be required to lift equipment in excess of 50 pounds.

 The selected candidate may be required to climb ladders and use motorized lifts in order to operate and install in-studio lights.
