Job Description:

New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a paid summer intern to work in our podcast team. Over 10 weeks (June-August), the intern will be brought into the center of the podcast production process and will learn fundamental skills necessary in all phases of production. The intern will participate in team meetings and have the opportunity to pitch original stories. The intern will have a mentor and support from our podcasting team.

This is a paid, internship based out of Concord, NH.

Production Internship, Podcast Unit

The intern with the podcast unit (known internally as the “Creative Production Unit”) has the opportunity to play an integral role on the team that produces two successful weekly podcasts, including Civics 101, an interview/narrative hybrid podcast about government, history, and civics fundamentals, and the weekly narrative podcast Outside/In, a show featuring a wide range of stories that can be related to the tagline “Where curiosity and the natural world collide.” Both podcasts enjoy substantial national listenership. The intern's tasks and opportunities will be varied and challenging, from pitching and reporting original stories to supporting other team members in their episode production to honing fundamental skills including audio editing and mixing, finding great stories, booking guests, writing scripts, voicing narration, and engaging with audiences on digital platforms including social media and newsletters. Our intern may work on either Outside/In or Civics 101 or both, depending on the successful candidate’s interests and skills fit.

We are looking for candidates with initiative and curiosity, excellent writing skills, a strong interest in either or both subjects related to our podcasts, the ability to work independently and efficiently, and an interest in journalism and public media. Experience working in audio in a journalism or podcast role is a plus. Some audio production skills are strongly desired.

Having consistent and reliable transportation is a requirement of this role as internships may require travel to report stories. Consistent and reliable access to the internet is also a requirement of the role.

Compensation & Benefits:

The Internship is a temporary full time, non-exempt, hourly position. The internship program is a 40-hour a week role that is 10 weeks in length (June 3, 2024, to August 9, 2024). The compensation is $17.50 an hour and a $500 stipend is provided that can be used for housing/transportation/relocation.

Internships are non-benefit eligible positions; however interns receive 2 paid holidays and can participate in NHPR's 403b plan.
