Job Description:

New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is an independent and trusted source for news and information, and the state’s largest radio news service. Our award-winning Development team is seeking a Mid-Level Giving Officer to develop and implement a program for donors contributing $500 to $1,200. This position will also play a key role in building the pipeline for NHPR’s principal giving program by identifying and qualifying prospective higher level donors. The successful candidate will be a creative and detail-oriented team player who is able to think strategically and establish connections with donors. This individual will have strong written and verbal communications skills, and experience in development and/or marketing. This position reports to the Director of Major and Planned Gifts and works closely with the Membership team.

  • Creates and executes an annual plan to acquire, retain, upgrade, steward and qualify mid-level donors giving between $500 and $1,200 annually through phone, mail, email and in-person outreach, in coordination with Membership.
  • As part of the Major Gifts team, helps develop and implement an annual plan to retain, upgrade, recognize and steward members of the Leadership Circle, NHPR’s recognition society for donors giving unrestricted gifts of $1,000 or more annually.
  • Manages a portfolio of 400-600 mid-level donors, communicating regularly with them via phone and other means.
  • Coordinating closely with the Membership team, creates and tests multi-channel new and lapsed donor and additional gift acquisition strategies.
  • Identifies and qualifies donors with the potential to give more than $1,200 annually who may be transferred to a major gift officer.
  • Drafts renewal, acquisition, acknowledgement and stewardship letters and other communications.
  • Ensures that information in the donor database is kept up-to-date, donor interactions are tracked accurately and mid-level gifts are acknowledged in a timely manner.
  • Tracks and reports on performance of mid-level giving campaigns, including conversion, renewal, upgrade and retention rates.
  • Manages and attends events (requires some evening hours and travel within the state, and possibly to other New England states).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in development, marketing and/or communications.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships and comfortable asking for people for contributions.
  • Effective interpersonal skills that demonstrate tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Ability to listen actively and think analytically.
  • Experience solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Flexible and comfortable with change.
  • Technically savvy - ability to quickly learn computer database and communications software. 
  • Excellent organization and time management skills. 
  • Willingness to work some evening hours and to travel regularly throughout New Hampshire and possibly to other New England states.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Other qualifications that would be useful:

  • Experience working in Raisers’ Edge or another relationship database.
