ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll expand NewsHour’s use of social media storytelling with exclusive social content produced in and around Washington. You’ll manage live, breaking, current events on Twitter, Facebook LIVE, and Instagram TV and engage in daily news and long-term projects on various social platforms. We’ll look to you for the latest in social media tools and techniques and track/communicate social performance and engagement metrics to internal staff. You’ll also work with external partners on social media partnerships and sharing.

YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS

You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to enterprising and breaking news, features, and analysis reporting for the website starting on day one, and by day 30 you can expect to see your bylines on a variety of digital platforms.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

You pitch creative ideas for Washington based stories that are exclusive to social. You are quick to learn the newest tools and techniques in social media and how to best use each platform. You’ve created strong relationships with other PBS member stations, PBS, and WETA colleagues, which translates into social media partnerships and sharing. Your hard work culminates as increased positive engagement with current viewers and attracting new ones to our social channels.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • 3-5 years of professional experience reporting/producing and managing social platforms.
  • A deep curiosity about the evolution of social media in the news industry.
  • A desire to be at the forefront of social engagement and innovation.
  • An interest in news and being well informed on a wide range of areas including politics, economics, foreign affairs, arts, health, science, and education.
