Reports to: Senior News Editor, Digital
ABOUT THE ROLE
You’ll be responding to news in real time by managing wire copy and working alongside our video team to stream news events. You will also pitch, report and write original stories for our website and collaborate with social and video teams to package reporting for other platforms.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to newsroom leaders through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to enterprising and breaking news, features, and analysis reporting for the website starting on day one, and by day 30 you can expect to see your bylines on a variety of digital platforms.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You are regularly contributing to both breaking and longer-form, in-depth news reporting. You bring vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. Your work is acknowledged by not only your immediate team, but from the organization more broadly. You’ve developed trust with leadership. And you have grown your own skills and can point to evidence in your improved reporting.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Excellent writing skills and the ability to construct compelling narratives in written posts, social media, and video scripts.
- A knack for pitching irresistible stories.
- Ability to understand complicated subjects and interpret them for all the online platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or other related field; minimum 3 years’ experience in journalism; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
