StoryMaker Community Manager, Student Reporting Labs
Full-time, Grant funded for two years. Continued employment subject to funding.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Community Manager, you’ll oversee the new StoryMaker platform and build the educator community to enable school districts, local public broadcasting stations, libraries, and other formal and informal education spaces to participate in Student Reporting Labs (SRL) and produce local stories. You’ll help lead NSF-funded research into how to scale a successful learning program and use StoryMaker’s analytics and data to set goals and measure the growth, progress and success of the platform.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll bring fresh eyes to all the content on StoryMaker, the product goals and the user needs. By mapping current and potential StoryMaker users, you’ll propose community engagement goals to successfully scale Student Reporting Labs programming. You’ll become comfortable in the content management system to be able add new projects and lessons, and fix minor technical issues. You’ll get to know the NewsHour Product team and develop communication and workflow to collaborate on bigger fixes and future features. You'll learn the product research goals and provide regular updates on usage and key metrics. You’ll collaborate with the SRL communications and leadership on MailChimp and other forms of communication with educators and stakeholders. You’ll create at least 2 professional development events for educators who are using StoryMaker.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You manage an energetic and forward-looking education and storytelling product that is widely recognized as a leader of its kind. The curriculum is up to date and you are continually lifting up new ideas, backed by data and research findings, for how to improve the user experience and educator community engagement. You strike the balance between being communicative and collaborative with all SRL verticals, yet work independently to set and achieve ambitious goals for growth and sucess. You ask for and respond positively to feedback from the SRL team, teacher advisors and StoryMaker stakeholders, with whom you have cultivated strong relationships. You are seen as a strong partner for the NewsHour Product team, and there is clear alignment between goals, activities and timelines.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Experience building community around digital products.
- Understanding of education and media fields.
- Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation and time management skills.
- Confidence to raise and communicate issues and concerns to leadership.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.

ABOUT STUDENT REPORTING LABS
SRL is an award-winning national youth journalism program that connects classrooms and after school programs to local public media stations and the PBS NewsHour. SRL is a leader in the youth media landscape, currently operating in 170 school
communities in 46 states. Thousands of teachers use SRL’s journalism, civic
engagement and video production resources, and participating students produce video journalism that is regularly featured on local and national news media. SRL consists of a small, ambitious and talented team of journalism and education professionals who work closely with a growing network of students, teachers and public media partners.
