Job Description:

South Coast Bureau Reporter

 The South Coast Bureau Reporter will primarily include working with a rotating team of journalists, a staff researcher and interns to develop timely news reports,  investigative and long-form stories for radio and web. As part of a small, versatile editorial team, you’ll also work with the Chief Content Officer in more strategic editorial planning for the news staff and help with coverage as needed.

 We’re looking for a journalist who:

  • Has a passion for writing and creative, fact-based storytelling

  • Understands and embraces the tenets of community journalism

  • Has knowledge and insights into the issues and people of southeastern Massachusetts

  • Thrives on working independently as well as collaboratively, with other bureau reporters

  • Lives or is willing to relocate to the southeastern Massachusetts area 

 The ideal candidate has:

  • A minimum of 2 years of journalism experience

  • Strong writing and reporting skills

  • Knowledge of broadcast and digital platforms, including audio editing, basic photojournalism skills and familiarity with simple web posting

  • Understanding of the public media system

  • College degree or equivalent experience

 

  Job Duties include:

  • News Reporting: Coverage of daily news for broadcast and digital channels, including spots, short features

  • Enterprise Reporting: Generate ideas, pitch stories, and report long-form stories on the issues shaping southeastern Massachusetts

  • Web page: Maintain Bureau web page, including placement of bureau stores and management of community resources sections

  • Interns: Management of Bureau interns, including training, editing and assignments

  • Collaboration: Collaborate, as assigned, with other bureau reporters and beat reporters at The Public’s Radio on staff projects as appropriate

  • Community Engagement: Participate in community partnerships and events as assigned

  • Fund-raising: Participate in regular on air fund drives as assigned

  • Other duties as determined by the editor and Chief Content Officer
