SUMMARY: Texas Public Radio is seeking an experienced and innovative podcast producer who will oversee the development production of TPR’s on-demand content.
Texas Public Radio (TPR) is a mission-driven, award-winning, multimedia organization serving an audience of more than 280,000 across a wide expanse of the state. Our newsroom includes an 18-person team of reporters, hosts, editors and producers who serve our local and regional audiences. TPR is part of The Texas Newsroom, a collaboration between NPR and Texas public radio stations, and the first hub to launch in a system-wide collaboration to create a virtual newsroom of 1,000 plus journalists.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage the ideation, development and production of podcasts, from pitch to execution, including development of business plans with budget, calendar and other relevant considerations.
Collaborate with news leadership to evaluate and execute on-going short-term and timely news podcasts, documentaries and other products.
Work with the digital team to ensure effective digital and social media content and promotion of on-demand audio content, producing associated multimedia elements including video, photos, and graphics.
Track audience insights. Establish and maintain benchmarks for successful digital content products. Use metrics to identify and implement opportunities for growth.
Participate appropriately in station fundraising and sponsorship activities and live events.
Fulfill administrative obligations related to assignments, including filing prompt and accurate program information/summaries, maintaining contact with and keeping the News Director informed about assignments, keeping appropriate files and submitting timely expense reports.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of two years strong journalism and/or documentary experience.
Minimum of two years developing digital content with proven reach and impact.
Experience working with Apple, NPR One, Spotify or other on-demand digital platforms ideal.
Demonstrated sound news judgment.
A passion for the mission of public radio.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Demonstrated ability to write and edit clear, accurate, compelling in-depth audio and digital stories.
Technologically versatile with an eagerness to explore and experiment using new digital tools. Experience using software to manipulate photos and images and create visual presentations desired.
Experience using audio and editing software and equipment. Video editing experience a bonus.
Proven ability to utilize social media to engage new audiences. Web design, management, and/or editing capability a bonus.
Demonstrated professionalism and personal relationship skills, including the ability to work well with other team members.
Self-motivated, with a “willing spirit” and the ability to work efficiently with limited direct supervision.
Able to work extended hours as needed, sometimes on short notice.
Must have valid standard Class C driver’s license and transportation.
Spanish/English bilingual language skills a plus.
