Reporting to the Manager, Content Production and Programming, the Producer will play an integral part in the programming department.

KUSC is part of the USC Radio Group, with sister station KDFC in San Francisco. KUSC and KDFC are licensed to the University of Southern California, one of the leading research universities in the nation with an admirable commitment to classical music, the arts and the community.
 
Job Overview
The producer for the USC Radio Group plans, conceives, coordinates, directs, participates, and/or leads in the production, direction and/or post-production of different types of audio content including programs, segments, podcasts and special audio initiatives for radio and digital platforms. The candidate has a proven track record of developing and working with on-air talent. The candidate must be fluent in both Spanish and English. Work must adhere to USC-RG journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards but initiative and independent judgement are required. There is often a requirement to co-ordinate the activities of others.
 
Reporting to the Manager, Content Production and Programming, the Producer is a key member of the Content Team. S/he executes the USC Radio Group vision and champions its culture and values.
 
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Conceive, develop, coordinate, direct and produce content segments initiatives adhering to USC-RG’s vision, mission and brand promise.
  • Plan, organize and develop program content, including assigning, researching and/or editing.
  • As required, commission writing and/or research.
  • Prepare scripts in accordance with program objectives, determine the style, pace, tempo, lineup and format of the program.
  • Plan, select, and request, in collaboration with station management, production resource requirements, including creative contributors and other participants, material and facilities.
  • Direct talent for production initiatives.
  • Develop new talent for radio and emerging digital audio platforms.
  • Be responsible and accountable for managing the program budget.
  • Work with the digital and social media teams to deliver on any content needed for initiatives greenlit.
  • Assist in evaluating the performance of personnel and freelance contributors.
  • Select classical music tracks for content productions
  • Participate in the station’s editorial, membership, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of contributors to the program or segment for which you are responsible.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience.
  • Edit and mix or direct the editing and mixing of audio elements.
  • Perform other production and administrative tasks ensuring the smooth operation of your productions.
  • Collaborate with varied stakeholders to develop communications materials.
  • Participate in the production of digital content for USC Radio Group fundraising campaigns.
  • Ensure the maintenance of a level of communication or rapport with members of the audience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all USC Radio Group departments.
  • Maintain currency with industry standards, best practices and emerging technologies
  • Demonstrate alignment to strategic plans of the organization through words, actions and ideas.
  • As needed, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers, or others, ensure the proper and accurate clearance of all material used in the content initiative.
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment, building and maintaining strong cross functional relationships and a deep understanding of organizational and university cultures.

Qualifications:
  • University/college training in a relevant field, or relevant experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three to four years relevant experience, including broadcasting, content production, or a related field.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate leadership, creativity, team focus, good communication skills, and a strong ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines.

Minimum Field of Expertise:
Fluent in both Spanish and English. Three years of relevant experience in broadcasting, content production, or a related field. Demonstrable leadership, creativity, team focus, good communication skills, and a strong ability to work well under pressure to tight deadlines. Advanced visual digital editing and production skills. Keen interest in emerging digital technologies. Working knowledge of classical music.
