Summary 

The Director of Business Sponsorships is a producing sales management position, leading Vermont Public’s corporate underwriting and sponsorship program. The director, in concert with the associate director, supervises a team of Account Managersin reaching the organization’s revenue goals by developing and executing sales strategies as well as cultivating and sustaining relationships, both internal and external.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Provide leadership and strategy to the Business Sponsorship department.

  • Manage the overall underwriting and sponsorship program, including relationships within the organization.

  • Meet department revenue goals through underwriting and sponsorship sales and retention.

  • Manage a portfolio of underwriting and sponsorship clients.

  • Lead and supervise staff through individual coaching and team meetings. 

  • Maintain understanding of the current market and media to create effective sponsorship strategies.

  • Cultivate positive sponsor connections that help create lasting relationships.

  • Assure the department maintains accurate sponsor records, contracts and client billing information. 

  • Monitor Accounts Receivable and create plans for collection.

  • Represent the interests, needs and resources of the corporate support team and department, and collaborate across departments to achieve mutual goals.

  • Assure departmental compliance with FCC, and organization’s underwriting guidelines and ethics policy and that copy standards maintain a positive audience experience.

  • Represent Vermont Public in the business community.

  • Serve as a member of Vermont Public’s management team. 

  • Communicate underwriting opportunities to supporters at a high level: in writing, in conversation, and in formal presentations

  • Ability to develop effective underwriting and sponsorship pricing proposals that meet the goals and budgets of diverse clients while achieving Vermont Public’s revenue goals. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Effectively lead and manage a team(recruiting, training, supervision, recognition).

  •  Successfully develop and achieve  sales and performance goals, (individually and in a team leadership role).

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or at least 5 years of relevant experience in sales, marketing, development or related field(s). Supervisory or managerial experience is required, including a demonstrated record of effective team leadership. 

Working Conditions

Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels (computers, telephones, etc.).  No known environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of job duties.

Physical Demands

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods, bending, and filing, but most duties are from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials on a computer screen. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods, and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level.
