Associate Producer, Local Projects

Full-time, Regular 

Reports to:  Senior Director of Production and Creative Services


Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Production & Creative Services, the Associate Producer, Local Projects will participate in producing local programs, interstitials and special projects for WETA-TV.


  • In collaboration with producers, assist in producing local programs and short stories about the people, places, and culture of the Washington, DC area, with an emphasis on the dining and restaurant scene. 
  • Communicate with potential story subjects and coordinate with them throughout the production process.
  • Schedule and support location shoots with producers, crews, and story subjects.
  • Conduct research in support of scriptwriting, fact-checking, and rights clearances.
  • Research, acquire, and license rights for archival and stock footage.
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work remotely and self-direct.
  • Flexible and creative disposition.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of media management technology including non-linear editing, transcoding, clipping and logging.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team, in an environment of multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media arts, English, or related field.
  • Minimum two years’ experience in television production and postproduction.
  • Experience working with digital/online media is preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.


WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations.  We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA.  WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible.  Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
